African American Advisory Board

Focus Areas

Law Enforcement Relations
Truancy and School Disengagement
Barriers to Employment
Access to Mental Health Resources

The African American Advisory Board focuses on reducing truancy, building opportunities for job training, employment readiness and mentorship programs, and reducing the stigma of mental health in the community.

In post-Ferguson America, where communities of color continue to experience negative interactions with police locally and nationally, our group will continue to work on ways to improve relations between law enforcement and the African American communities we impact.

There is a movement in our country to address the hostility that exists between law enforcement and communities of color. Continuing this dialogue and promoting healthy lines of communication and strong relationships is one of the many goals of this group.  With this purpose in mind, one early success includes the Healing Circle hosted by our office in 2015.
