Non-Economic Restitution is the First of its Kind in San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – District Attorney George Gascón announced that Ricardo Asturias, (age 68), was sentenced by Judge Giorgi to 16 years and 8 months in state prison for sexually abusing a young child and possession of child pornography. In addition, Judge Giorgi ordered the defendant to pay $625,000 in restitution for non-economic damages, marking the first time in San Francisco where non-economic damages were awarded since the 1996 penal code change to allow restitution awards in felony child molestation cases. Read More

The new ad campaign is titled “What’s the Rush,” and asks motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians to work together to make San Francisco’s streets safer. San Francisco - District Attorney George Gascón announced the winners of the “Bye Bye Bullying” video contest at a press conference held at Socialcam, a socially connected platform accessible from mobile devices and the web, and one of the most popular apps for capturing and sharing video. The bullying awareness video contest for middle school and high schools in San Francisco was produced by the District Attorney’s Women’s Committee.
