Interim DA Loftus Sworn In

San Francisco Interim District Attorney Suzy Loftus 

San Francisco Interim District Attorney Suzy Loftus is a veteran prosecutor and a leading authority on criminal justice reform and crime prevention. An experienced executive, Loftus led the San Francisco Police Commission and served as General Counsel of the California Department of Justice, the nation’s second-largest public law office.

Veteran Prosecutor

Loftus served as a San Francisco prosecutor, where she prosecuted misdemeanor and felony cases, including domestic violence, elder abuse, and firearms cases. She served as General Counsel at the California Department of Justice, where she oversaw important cases that were a top priority to California Attorney General Kamala D. Harris. Loftus also served as the Assistant Director of the Division of Law Enforcement in the Department of Justice, overseeing the state’s forensic and digital evidence services.

Community Advocate

As a longtime community advocate, she served as COO of the Center for Youth Wellness in San Francisco’s Bayview community. In 2014, she was honored by the James Irvine Foundation for her work to build and found the Center, an innovative non-profit working to heal children suffering from the impacts of violence.

Former President of the SF Police Commission

Loftus also served as President of the San Francisco Police Commission from 2012-2017. Under her leadership, the Police Commission revised the Police Department’s use of force policy and instituted body-worn cameras to increase transparency and improve police-community relations in San Francisco. She won broad praise for her dogged efforts to forge consensus around reforms to use-of-force and police accountability as well as her work to improve police response to violence against women and children and to make city streets safe for all.

Loftus is a native of San Francisco and lives in the Sunset neighborhood with her husband and three daughters.
