Legislation

The San Francisco District Attorney’s Office recognizes that developing safer communities means working within various frameworks, such as prosecuting crime in the courtroom, serving victims and communities through our Victim Services Department, innovating and implementing programs to root out underlying causes of criminal behavior, and participating in the legislative process to expand our criminal reform efforts.

Under the leadership of District Attorney George Gascón, our office frequently assists in writing and proposing legislation to sponsors, in addition to providing testimony in support (or opposition) of specific bills. Our work with lawmakers enhances the safety of our communities, cost-effectively utilizes our resources, and delivers a more equal and fair administration of justice for victims, communities, and offenders.
