MAN CONVICTED OF LEWD ACT ON A CHILD FACING PRISON

SAN FRANCISCO – Today, San Francisco District Attorney George Gascón announced that a jury found Derrell Anderson, age 41, of San Francisco, guilty yesterday of a lewd act on a child.

“Do not touch someone who does not want to be touched,” said District Attorney George Gascón.  “It is a sexual assault and you will be held accountable.”

According to court records, at approximately 2:00 p.m. on May 11, 2016, a fourteen-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by the Defendant at a Burger King on Market Street.  Defendant Anderson approached the young woman and asked her for money.  When she told him she did not have any money and was just trying to use the restroom, the defendant reached out and touched her breast.  The young woman immediately left the Burger King and told her father, who contacted police.  Burger King’s surveillance footage captured the sexual assault.  The defendant was arrested and identified by the victim.

“This was a particularly bright and courageous young woman,” said Assistant District Attorney O’Bryan Kenney.  “I greatly admire her for coming forward to ensure the defendant was held accountable, and that he did not do this to another young person.”

A date for sentencing has not yet been scheduled.  The Honorable Geraldo Sandoval presided.  This successful prosecution is the result of an excellent investigation by SFPD Sgt. Esther Gonzalez and Officer Tracy Demkowski.  Special thanks go to Victim Advocate Lili Gamero, IT Specialist Morris Moore, and Paralegal Nina Stellini.  Assistant District Attorney O’Bryan Kenney prosecuted the case.
