SAN FRANCISCO DISTRICT ATTORNEY GEORGE GASCÓN AND BRAZILIAN CONSUL GENERAL EDUARDO PRISCO SIGN MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING

Formal Agreement Between the Nation of Brazil and the City and County of San Francisco Ensures Better Protections for Brazilian Victims

SAN FRANCISCO – District Attorney George Gascón and Consul General Eduardo Prisco signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) agreement today to protect and ensure the safety of domestic violence victims and survivors of human trafficking. The agreement will enable greater cooperation between the Brazilian Consulate and the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office. The formal agreement will help expedite referrals to programs focused on assisting victims, referrals to attorneys for immigration, family and civil issues, as well as access to the network of local domestic violence and trafficking service providers who provide shelter and medical assistance.

“While Brazil celebrates their much deserved win yesterday in their first game of the World Cup, that celebration continues here in San Francisco with the signing of this agreement,” said District Attorney George Gascón. “This MOU will help my office ensure better protections and services for Brazilian nationals who are victims of crime in San Francisco.”

“Today Brazil scored another goal with the signing of this MOU,” said Brazilian Consul General Eduardo Prisco. “This agreement will ensure my staff will receive training that will enable them to better recognize victims of domestic violence and human trafficking.”

This MOU acknowledges the cooperative working relationship between the Consulate and the Office of the San Francisco District Attorney and establishes a framework to strengthen this institutional relationship.
