District Attorney Announces Request for Proposals for Neighborhood Justice Fund

San Francisco - District Attorney George Gascón announced today the availability of Neighborhood Justice Fund grants to nonprofits and community-based organizations for projects that will enhance the safety, livability and cohesion of San Francisco's neighborhoods. The grants are a result of funds collected from Neighborhood Court directives and held by the District Attorney’s Office for the sole purpose of disbursement through grants once a year to community-based organizations.

“The Neighborhood Justice Fund empowers communities to take action towards improving neighborhood safety,” said District Attorney George Gascón. “We encourage community organizations to be creative in their proposals on effective ways to foster public safety in their neighborhoods.”

The 2012 Neighborhood Justice Fund RFP process is open to all non-profit 501 (c)(3) organizations and community-groups. Applications must be compliant City Vendors prior to submitting proposals to be eligible for funds. Organizations may submit one application for a maximum amount of $3,500 and there will be no more then 11 grants awarded in this funding cycle.

To be considered for a Neighborhood Justice Funds, projects must be located in San Francisco, demonstrate a long-term benefit for the district, be accompanied by a time bound schedule, enhance the livability of the district and be within the demonstrated capacity of the applying organizations. Project options include but are not limited to neighborhood watches, neighborhood beautification, community empowerment, youth development, public safety and health awareness

Grants awarded during 2012 disbursement are for projects to be completed between March 1, 2013 and December 31, 2013. Proposals for 2013 projects must be submitted by 5:00 PM Friday, December 14, 2012
