SAN FRANCISCO, CA – District Attorney George Gascón announced today that James Rickleffs, age 45, will be charged with one count of premeditated murder and one count of first degree residential robbery. The Defendant is alleged to have murdered Eriq Escalon, a 28 year old Diamond Heights resident, who was found deceased at his apartment in the 5000 block of Diamond Heights Boulevard on June 12, 2012.

“We have seen a pattern of conduct, specifically in the Castro bar scene, where unsuspecting people have been robbed or burglarized by suspects they met at a bar or club,” said District Attorney George Gascón. “Thanks to the public’s help and good police work, this defendant will face justice for what he has done.”

According to court documents, the Defendant and Escalon met early in the morning at a Castro District bar. They left the bar, made a stop at an ATM machine where Escalon accessed his account and they both took a taxi back to Escalon’s apartment. At approximately 6pm on June 12, 2012, Escalon’s roommate returned home to find the apartment ransacked and the victim bound, gagged and deceased. Evidence uncovered during the investigation linked the defendant to the crime.

The San Francisco Police Department is looking for anyone who has had any contact with the suspect to please call Sgt. Scott Warnke or Inspectors Daniel Dedet, Kevin Jones or Robert Valverde in Homicide Unit at 415-553-1145, the after hours line at 415-553-1071, anonymous tip line 415-575-4444 or send a tip by text message to TIP411.

The Defendant is scheduled to be arraigned on Sept 10th in Dept 12. Assistant Harry Dorfman will arraign the case.
