San Francisco Man Arraigned in Polk Street Murder

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – District Attorney George Gascón announced today the arraignment of Jodie Daniels (DOB 2/19/81). Defendant Daniels is charged with the murder and robbery of Terry Turner.

Defendant Jodie Daniels appeared before the Honorable Jeffrey Ross in Department 12 of San Francisco Superior Court on Friday, January 21, 2011 for arraignment on one count of murder in violation of California Penal Code Section 187, one count of robbery in violation of California Penal Code Section 211 and one count of felon in possession of a firearm in violation of California Penal Code Section 12021(a)(1). The defendant is also charged with personal use of a gun in violation of California Penal Code 12022.53(d). Defendant Daniels pled not guilty to all charges and allegations.

According to court documents, on January 13, 2011, the defendant allegedly chased Mr. Turner into a coffee shop located at Polk and Geary. Once inside the coffee shop, the defendant shot the victim several times. The motive for the killing and the relationship between the two men remains under investigation.

The maximum statutory penalty for murder in violation of California Penal Code section 187 is 25 years to life in prison. The maximum statutory penalty for the use of a gun is an additional 25 years to life in prison. Bail was set at $2 million. The case was continued to Wednesday, February 23, 2011 for discovery in Department 12 before Judge Ross.

The arrest of the defendant is the result of the investigation of SFPD Inspectors Gianrico Pierucci, Lawrence Mack, Michael Philpot, John Miller and Brian Delahunty. Mel Santos is the defense attorney. Diana Garcia is the Assistant District Attorney prosecuting the case.
