Real Estate Fraud

The San Francisco District Attorney’s Real Estate Fraud Unit investigates and prosecutes real estate fraud cases occurring in the City and County of San Francisco.

Typical cases include the recordation of false or forged deeds or instruments, fraudulent transfer of title, forged loan applications, grand theft, securities fraud/real estate investment schemes, and mortgage foreclosure and loan modification scams.

If you believe you have been the victim of real estate fraud, please complete the complaint form, being sure to include all supporting documents. These materials will be used to evaluate whether the case meets the criteria to open an investigation.

If we are unable to open an investigation, our unit will attempt to refer your case to other appropriate government agencies or community organizations. Many real estate cases may not be appropriately filed in the criminal courts, but nonetheless may support a private, civil action. The District Attorney is legally prohibited from representing individuals in civil matters, including foreclosure sales or eviction cases.
