RICHMOND MAN CONVICTED OF DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE ON US 101S

San Francisco, CA – San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced today that her office secured a conviction of Jose Ramos-Gonzalez (26), of Richmond, after a trial by jury for driving under the influence on US 101S. Mr. Ramos-Gonzalez was convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol (VC 23152(a)).

“I would like to thank the jury for their service in this trial,” said District Attorney Brooke Jenkins. “My office takes these cases seriously and will continue to do everything we can to keep our roads safe. Those who engage in this kind of behavior place countless lives at risk and must be held accountable.”

According to testimony and other evidence presented at trial, on January 13, 2024, at approximately 3:20 AM, California Highway Patrol officers saw Mr. Ramos-Gonzalez weaving in and out of lanes and speeding at 90 miles per hour on US-101 South near Cesar Chavez Street. When officers pulled the car over, they noticed Mr. Ramos-Gonzalez was slow, sluggish, and smelled of alcohol. Additionally, he could not walk steadily. He admitted to having four shots after performing a DJ set at City Nights.

The case against Mr. Ramos-Gonzalez was successfully prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Blake Catherine with assistance from paralegal Joshua Nickchen, and IT support from Ada Yu. Prosecutors were able to develop a strong case against Mr. Ramos-Gonzalez based on the California Highway Patrol’s diligent investigation and assistance in keeping impaired drivers off the road.

“I want to thank the jury for their time and careful deliberation.,” said Assistant District Attorney Blake Catherine. “This verdict sends a message that making the irresponsible decision to drink and drive will not be tolerated in San Francisco.”
