Eduardo Navarro Perez attacked a Jewish man with a skateboard while making antisemitic comments
San Francisco, CA – Today, San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced that Eduardo Navarro Perez has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon in connection to an attack on a Jewish man on Haight Street. Additionally, prosecutors are alleging this this assault is a hate crime and was committed because the victim is Jewish. Navarro Perez is alleged to have asked the victim if he was Jewish or Black and attacked the victim with a skateboard when the victim said he was Jewish. During the attack, the victim reports that Navarro Perez made disparaging remarks towards Jewish people.
“There is no place for antisemitism, or any crimes motivated by hate in San Francisco, in our state or anywhere else,” said District Attorney Brooke Jenkins. “We will do everything in our power to hold Navarro Perez accountable and ensure that there are consequences for this attack. This prosecution will send a message to all who seek to sow division that our diversity and unity makes us strong, and we will not sit idly by and allow anyone to be singled out and victimized because of who they are.”
Hate Crime enhancements were filed in this case because prosecutors have evidence that clearly demonstrate that Navarro Perez’ crimes were motivated by animus towards Jewish people.
Navarro Perez has been in custody since his arrest on December 17, 2022. Prosecutors sought pre-trial detention in this case because of the public safety risk he poses. He faces up to seven years in State Prison if convicted and the hate crime allegation is found to be true.
