District Attorney Brooke Jenkins Announces Four Charged With Murder and Multiple Felonies in Connection to North Beach Shooting

Three suspects also facing gang enhancements on several counts for alleged crimes.

San Francisco, CA – Today, San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced multiple felony charges and allegations against four individuals in connection to a shooting in North Beach on April 23, 2023.  San Francisco resident Nkeosi Jackson (22), Oakland residents Malachi Lefiti (22) and Marilyn Sahugun-Lopez (20), and Suisun City resident Jeremiah Thomas (21) are each charged with murder (PC 187), two counts of attempted murder (PC 664/187), and two counts of attempted second-degree robbery (PC 664/211).  Mr. Jackson, Mr. Lefiti and Mr. Thomas are also each charged with two counts of assault with a semi-automatic firearm (PC 245(b)) and one count of discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle (PC 246).  Lefiti and Jackson face an additional charge for being convicted felons in possession of a firearm (PC 29800(a)(1)).  Each defendant also faces multiple allegations connected to these charges including allegations of great bodily injury and personal and intentional use of a firearm.

“Addressing gun violence is a top priority for my administration,” said District Attorney Brooke Jenkins.  “We will ensure that there is accountability and appropriate consequences for heinous crimes like this one that gravely threaten residents, visitors, businesses and our communities.”

Mr. Jackson, Mr. Lefiti and Mr. Thomas also face additional allegations, on multiple counts, that the offenses were committed in association with a criminal street gang (PC 186.22(b)(1)). 

On April 23, 2023, at approximately 10:58 p.m., San Francisco Police officers from Central Station responded to the area of Grant and Columbus Avenues for a report of a shooting. Officers arrived on scene and located a 23-year-old Suisun City male victim suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Despite efforts from officers and medical personnel, he was declared deceased at the scene.

Officers located two additional shooting victims nearby, both 24-year-old males from Sacramento County. Officers rendered aid and summoned medics to the scene. The two victims were transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.  

Mr. Lefiti and Ms. Sahugun-Lopez were also injured in the shooting and transported separately to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries prior.  

Each suspect is scheduled to be arraigned on July 20, 2023, at 1:30PM in Department 10 of the Hall of Justice. If convicted of all charges and allegations are found to be true, Mr. Jackson, Mr. Lefiti and Mr. Thomas each face 50 years to life in State Prison and Ms. Sahugun-Lopez faces 26 years to life in State Prison.

Each suspect was arrested on July 18, 2023, by members of the San Francisco Police Department who executed search warrants in San Francisco, Oakland, Suisun City and Roseville.  Each suspect was taken into custody without incident and have been booked in San Francisco County Jail.
