FIVE CHARGED IN CONNECTION TO WALGREENS ATTEMPTED MASS ORGANIZED RETAIL BURGLARY

San Francisco, CA – District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced today that five individuals have been charged with numerous felonies in connection to a group burglary of a Walgreens located on the 900 block of Geneva Avenue. Shalia Brown (24) of San Francisco, Joshua Davis (34) of Sacramento, Thomas Henry (20) of Oakland, Ian Spencer (54) of Menlo Park and Khali Arsenauspencer (18) of South San Francisco were each arraigned on October 13, 2023, and each pled not guilty to second-degree commercial burglary (PC 459), attempted grand theft (PC 664/487(a)), attempted organized retail theft (PC 664/490.4(a)(1)), and conspiracy (PC 182(a)(1)). The criminal complaint also alleges that Mr. Henry committed these crimes while on bail and out of custody on his own recognizance.

“I would like to thank the San Francisco Police Department for their efforts to combat brazen organized retail theft,” said District Attorney Brooke Jenkins. “This criminal conduct will not be tolerated and we will seek to ensure there is accountability and consequences in every case.”

According to San Francisco Police, on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at approximately 6:37 p.m. officers observed a group of approximately eight people rush into the business wearing masks and carrying bags while pulling a wagon styled cart. The subjects began quickly filling their bags and the wagon with store merchandise. Officers made contact with the subjects who all fled from the store and a foot pursuit ensued. Officers were able to detain several subjects.

The next court date for all five individuals charged in connection to this incident is October 26, 2023, for the preliminary hearing in this matter. The District Attorney’s Office moved to detain each of them pending trial because of the public safety risk they pose. The court did not set bail for Mr. Henry who will remain in custody at this time. The court released all of the other defendants on their own recognizance with electronic monitoring. They are also each subject to a stay away order from the Walgreens store on the 900 block of Geneva Avenue. If convicted of all charges and all allegations are found to be true four of the charged individuals face up to five years in State Prison while Mr. Henry faces seven years.

Although charges have been filed, this remains an active investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the San Francisco Police Department Tip Line at 1-415-575-4444 or Text a Tip to TIP411 and begin the text message with SFPD. You may remain anonymous.
