San Francisco, CA – San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced today that her office secured a conviction of Shaun Huddleston (57), after a trial by jury for driving under the influence in SOMA. Mr. Huddleston was convicted of driving with a blood alcohol content of 0.08 percent or greater (VC 23152(b)), driving with a suspended or revoked license (VC 14601.5(a)), and resisting, obstructing or delaying a peace officer (PC 148(a)(1)).
“I would like to thank the jury for their service on this trial,” said District Attorney Brooke Jenkins. “Driving under the influence is dangerous and unlawful. There is no reason for anyone to get behind the wheel when they are impaired, ever. I am grateful that this incident did not end in tragedy. My office will continue to do everything we can to hold offenders accountable and protect the safety of the public.”
According to testimony and other evidence presented at trial, on November 30, 2024, at approximately 6:38 pm, San Francisco Police Department officers on patrol in the area near the 200 block of Kansas Street, observed a red Honda Accord drive through a stop sign at a high rate of speed. They attempted to pull the car over to initiate a traffic stop, however, Mr. Huddleston did not stop. He continued driving for three blocks, running additional stop signs, and swerving around cars in the process. Eventually, Mr. Huddleston tried to parallel park into a parking spot on 7th and King Streets. Officers ordered him out of the vehicle. He refused to comply with officers and exit his vehicle. Mr. Huddleston became belligerent and began yelling at the Officers and then exited the vehicle with his right hand behind his back and threw his wallet at the Officer’s patrol vehicle before re-entering the vehicle. He continued to act erratically, yelling and screaming at officers for approximately twenty minutes. Eventually, officers approached his car and detained Mr. Huddleston.
Officers detected a strong odor of alcohol and determined that Mr. Huddleston had a suspended license. He was then placed in the back of the police car where he attempted to spit on officers. Mr. Huddleston refused to provide a chemical breath or blood test to determine his blood alcohol level. A warrant was obtained for his blood, and his blood alcohol level was determined to be at a .125% about four and a half hours later.
The case against Mr. Huddleston was successfully prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Donovan Campos-Coolbaugh with assistance from paralegal Raquel Paz Aleman and the subpoena unit. Prosecutors were able to develop a strong case against Mr. Huddleston based on the San Francisco Police Department’s quick response, thorough investigation and assistance.
“I would like to begin by thanking the jury for their time, effort, and careful consideration of all the evidence presented at trial,” said Assistant District Attorney Donovan Campos-Coolbaugh. “We are committed to holding individuals accountable for driving under the influence of alcohol on our roadways and hindering law enforcement from doing their jobs.”
