JURY CONVICTS MAN OF DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE ON BAY BRIDGE

San Francisco, CA – San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced today that her office secured a conviction of Ian Henneberry (40), after a trial by jury for driving under the influence in the Richmond District. Mr. Henneberry was convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol (VC 21252(a)) and driving with a blood alcohol content of 0.08 percent or greater (VC 23152(b)).

“I would like to thank the jury for their service on this trial,” said District Attorney Brooke Jenkins. “Driving under the influence is dangerous and unlawful. Those who engage in this conduct put themselves and the public at risk. My office takes these cases seriously and will continue doing our part to hold offenders accountable and keep the public safe.”

According to testimony and other evidence presented at trial, on September 19, 2024, at approximately 11:30 pm Mr. Henneberry was working as a mobile bar tender, drank too much beer, and decided to drive home on the Bay Bridge. His tire blew out, and the sparks from him driving on the rim caused his van to catch on fire and filled his van with smoke. He called 9-1-1, and the California Highway Patrol arrived. CHP officers performed field sobriety tests, and Mr. Henneberry consented to a blood draw. The blood test revealed a BAC of 0.119.

The case against Mr. Henneberry was successfully prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Corliss Brekken with assistance from paralegals Josh Nickchen and Raquel Paz Aleman. Prosecutors were able to develop a strong case against Mr. Henneberry based on the California Highway Patrol’s thorough investigation and assistance.

“Driving under the influence endangers everyone on the road, and this conviction reinforces our commitment to holding impaired drivers accountable,” said Assistant District Attorney Corliss Brekken. “The jury saw the facts for what they were—an impaired driver over the legal limit.”
