JURY CONVICTS MAN OF DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE ON US 101 S

San Francisco, CA – San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced today that her office secured a conviction of Kenton Quilenderino (29), after a trial by jury for driving under the influence on US 101 southbound near Cesar Chavez Street. Mr. Quilenderino was convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol (VC 23152(a)), driving with a blood alcohol content of 0.08 percent or greater (VC 23152(b)), and the allegation of a prior DUI conviction in the past 10 years (VC 23540) was found true.

“Driving under the influence is unlawful and selfishly puts countless innocent lives at risk,” said District Attorney Brooke Jenkins. “My office takes these cases seriously and will continue doing our part to hold offenders accountable and keep the public safe. I hope this conviction sends a strong message to those who engage in this behavior, you will be identified, arrested, prosecuted and convicted.”

According to testimony and other evidence presented at trial, on April 15, 2024, at approximately 11:20 pm, California Highway Patrol officers on patrol on the US-101 southbound near Cesar Chavez Street observed a black Honda Accord weaving between lanes, nearly colliding with another vehicle. The officers conducted a traffic stop and contacted Mr. Quilenderino, the driver. During a thorough DUI investigation, Mr. Quilenderino exhibited signs of intoxication and performed poorly in standardized field sobriety tests. He subsequently submitted to a chemical blood test under California’s implied consent law, which revealed a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.198%, more than twice the legal limit.

The case against Mr. Quilenderino was successfully prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Shauna Kashyap with assistance from paralegals Josh Nickchen and Raquel Paz Aleman and IT support from Leland Chan and Noaeh Pinaire. Prosecutors were able to develop a strong case against Mr. Quilenderino based on California Highway Patrol’s thorough investigation and assistance.

“I want to thank the jury for their careful attention and deliberations in returning this just verdict,” said Assistant District Attorney Shauna Kashyap. “Driving under the influence endangers lives in our community and has no place in San Francisco. This verdict reaffirms that the people of San Francisco will not tolerate impaired driving on our streets.”
