JURY CONVICTS MAN OF FORCIBLY SEXUALLY ASSAULTING A MINOR

San Francisco, CA – San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced today that her office secured a conviction of Jian Feng Li (52), of Millbrae, after a trial by jury for sexually assaulting a minor. Mr. Li was convicted of felony forcible digital penetration (PC 289(a)(1)(A)), forcible sodomy (PC 286 (c)(2)(A)), and assault with the intent to commit sodomy (PC 220(a)(1)). He was also convicted of sexual battery (PC 243.4(e)(1)), indecent exposure (PC 314(1)) and lewd conduct (PC 647(a)).

“The jury’s verdict delivers justice to the victim and the family of these horrific crimes,” said District Attorney Brooke Jenkins. “I pray that this verdict brings them some measure of comfort that Mr. Li will not be able to victimize anyone else as they work to heal from this trauma. I am grateful to their courage and resolve through the pendency of this case as well as the investigators, victim advocates and prosecutors on my team who worked tirelessly to ensure that there was justice in this case.”

According to evidence presented at trial, on July 11, 2024, a 15-year-old victim, visiting San Francisco with family, was forcibly sexually assaulted by Mr. Li, a stranger to the victim, in the sauna area of a gym. The victim escaped into a nearby locker room and immediately called a parent for help.

The case against Mr. Li was successfully prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Rick Hullinger, with assistance from paralegal Andrew Ong and IT support from Noeaeh Pinaire. Victim Advocate Cindy Pelayo worked closely with the victim through the pendency of this case. Prosecutors were able to develop a strong case against Mr. Li based on the thorough investigation of officers and investigators from the San Francisco Police Department’s Central Station and Special Victims Unit including Sergeant Daniel Kroos and facility dog Auburn and her handler. The officers and investigators involved all demonstrated remarkable dedication, professionalism, and compassion.

“While the guilty verdict cannot fully return what the defendant took from the victim, I can only hope that the victim and the family find some peace that justice was done” said Assistant District Attorney Rick Hullinger. “I also want to express my gratitude to the jury for their service, particularly given the disturbing nature of the testimony in this case.”

Mr. Li is currently in custody. He faces up to 19 years in state prison and must register as a sex offender for life pursuant to Penal Code section 290 for his crimes. Sentencing is scheduled for October 3, 2025.
