San Francisco, CA – Today, San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced that Jose Gonzalo Rivera Flores (29), was charged in connection with a fatal shooting in the Mission District. Mr. Rivera Flores is charged with murder (PC 187(a)) with an allegation that he personally and intentionally discharged a firearm in the commission of the murder (PC12022.53(d)). He is also charged with carrying a concealed firearm (PC 25400(A)(2)) and carrying a loaded firearm (PC 25850(a)). He is scheduled to be arraigned on January 6, 2025, at 1:30 PM in Department 10 at the Hall of Justice. The District Attorney’s Office moved to have him detained pending trial due to the public safety risk he poses.
“I would like to send my condolences to the victim’s friends and family, and everyone impacted by this brazen New Year’s Day killing,” said District Attorney Brooke Jenkins. “I would also like to thank the San Francisco Police Department for making an immediate arrest in this case. My office will now do everything in or power to fight for justice in the courtroom.”
According to San Francisco Police, on January 1, 2025, at approximately 12:25 AM, officers responded to a gas station on the 500 block of South Van Ness Ave where they located a male adult victim laying on the ground suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and immediately rendered aid and summoned medics. Despite life-saving efforts by first responders and medical personnel, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. During the preliminary investigation, officers learned that the suspect fled from the scene in an SUV after the shooting occurred. Officers located the suspect vehicle in the area of Bayshore Boulevard and Geneva Avenue where Mr. Rivera Flores was taken into custody without further incident.
Although charges have been filed, and this case is being handled by the San Francisco District Attorney’s Homicide Unit, this remains an active investigation.
