MAN CONVICTED FOR UNLAWFUL POSSESSION OF SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL

San Francisco, CA – San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced today that her office secured a conviction of David Carter (23), of San Francisco, after a trial by jury for multiple felony gun charges. Mr. Carter was convicted of Possession of a Firearm by a Violent Felon (Penal Code § 29900(a)(1)), Possession of a Firearm by a Felon (Penal Code § 29800(a)(1)) and Carrying a Concealed Firearm in a Vehicle (Penal Code § 25400(a)(2)). In addition, the court found true allegations that Mr. Carter had a prior conviction under Penal Code §§ 667(d), 1170.12(b), 667(e)(1), and 1170.12(c)(1), based on a robbery conviction (PC § 211) in San Francisco County.

“I would like to thank the jury for their service in this trial,” said District Attorney Brooke Jenkins. “I would also like to thank the sharp-eyed officers whose proactive investigation resulted in the arrest of a convicted felon in possession of a gun. Convicted felons are prohibited from possessing firearms and must comply or face consequences.”

According to evidence and other testimony presented at trial, on April 30, 2025, at approximately 2:13 p.m., San Francisco Police Officers observed Mr. Carter approach a double-parked vehicle outside 55 Cashmere Street. He was wearing a cross-body satchel. When he noticed the officers, Mr. Carter quickly entered the car and instructed the driver to leave. Before the vehicle could depart, officers intervened and searched Mr. Carter, locating a loaded .45 caliber semi-automatic pistol inside his satchel. The firearm had an obliterated serial number. At the time of his arrest, Mr. Carter was on parole for a prior felony conviction.

The case against Mr. Carter was successfully prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Jordyn Sequeira, with assistance from District Attorney Investigator Marisa Sullivan and paralegal Andres Hernandez-Ruano whose outstanding work ensured a thorough presentation of evidence. Prosecutors were able to develop a strong case against Mr. Carter based on the investigation of the San Francisco Police Department’s Bayview Station as well as the Crime Gun Investigations Center.

“This verdict makes clear that repeat offenders who choose to arm themselves will be held accountable,” said Assistant District Attorney Jordyn Sequeira. “Guns in the hands of convicted felons endanger our neighborhoods, and I am grateful to the jury for ensuring accountability and helping protect the people of San Francisco.”

Mr. Carter is currently in custody. Sentencing is scheduled for October 14.
