MAN CONVICTED OF ASSAULT WITH A DEADLY WEAPON IN MACHETE ATTACK

San Francisco, CA – San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced today that her office secured a conviction of Billy Hudson (44), after a trial by jury for multiple assaults along with other charges. Mr. Hudson was convicted of assault with a deadly weapon, three counts of assault, vandalism, and possession of narcotics paraphernalia.

“I would like to thank the jury for their service in this trial,” said District Attorney Brooke Jenkins. “The jury’s verdict holds Mr. Hudson accountable and sends a message that San Franciscans will not tolerate violent crime. Those who engage in this kind of behavior will be held accountable and face consequences. My office takes these cases seriously and will continue to do everything in our power to ensure that justice is served and that our communities are safe.”

According to the testimony and evidence presented at trial, on October 15, 2024, at approximately 6:50 PM, Mr. Hudson was asked to leave Safeway on the 200 block of King Street by security guards under suspicion of prior thefts. Mr. Hudson reacted by assaulting one of the guards. Upon leaving the store, Mr. Hudson pulled out a machete and assaulted the other guard before fleeing. Approximately 25 minutes later, Mr. Hudson arrived at a pizza restaurant on the 900 block of Market Street and assaulted the employees there, before breaking a plastic partition and being chased off. Mr. Hudson was apprehended by San Francisco Police minutes later.

The case against Mr. Hudson was successfully prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Jonathan Yang with assistance from paralegal Sara Wong and IT support from Noaeh Pinaire. Prosecutors were able to develop a strong case against Mr. Hudson based on the work of San Francsico Police patrol officers from both Southern and Tenderloin Stations who responded to the respective scenes.

“I want to thank the jury for their thoughtful deliberation.” said Assistant District Attorney Jonathan Yang. “San Franciscans and our visitors should feel secure in doing simple everyday activities like shopping for groceries or getting a bite to eat. This verdict assists us in our continued pursuit of that goal.”

Mr. Hudson is currently in custody. Sentencing is scheduled for March 11, 2025.
