MAN CONVICTED OF VIOLATING RESTRAINING ORDER AND RESISTING AND ATTACKING ARRESTING OFFICERS

San Francisco, CA – San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced today that her office secured a conviction of William Haskins (33), after a trial by jury for violating the terms of a criminal protective order and resisting and attacking arresting officers. Mr. Haskins was convicted of exhibiting a deadly weapon (PC 417(a)(1)), battery (PC 242), two counts of violating a court order (PC 166(c)(1)), resisting, obstructing, or delaying a peace officer (PC 148(a)(1)) and battery on an officer (PC 243(b)).

“I would like to thank the jury for their service on this trial,” said District Attorney Brooke Jenkins. “Compliance with restraining orders is not optional. We take these cases seriously as violations of restraining orders are often the precursor to future violence. It is my hope that what we do now to intervene, and ensure there is accountability, will prevent an escalation or tragedy in the future. My office will always do everything we can to prevent violence and protect the safety of the public.”

According to the testimony and evidence presented at trial, the Superior Court of San Francisco issued a criminal protective order on October 4, 2022, ordering Mr. Haskins to stay 150 yards away from the protected party and her home. On August 19, 2023, police were called to a report of an assault. Upon arrival the protected party reported that Mr. Haskins had kicked her door down and assaulted her. When the police approached Mr. Haskins, he immediately began resisting, including biting and spitting on an officer. A records check showed that the protected party had the above criminal protective order in place protecting her from Mr. Haskins. As a result of this conduct the Superior Court of San Francisco issued a criminal protective order in case 23013103 on August 22, 2023.

On May 20, 2024, police were called to a report of an assault. Upon arrival they met with the protected party who stated that Mr. Haskins had brandished a pair of scissors at her. A records check showed that the protected party had a current criminal protective order in place protecting her from Mr. Haskins.

The case against Mr. Haskins was successfully prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Patrick McKuin with assistance from District Attorney Investigator Dana Lee, and paralegals Lena Ku and Lorreta Luu. Victim Advocate Cody Martinez worked closely with the victim through the pendency of this case. Prosecutors were able to develop a strong case against Mr. Haskins based on the work of SFPD patrol officers from Northern Station who responded to the scene and officers from the Special Victim’s Unit who continued the investigation.

“It is always dangerous for officers to respond to domestic violence calls, and this verdict holds Mr. Haskins accountable for his batteries on the protected party as well as the officers who responded to protect her,” said Assistant District Attorney Patrick McKuin.

Mr. Haskins is currently out of custody. Sentencing is scheduled for June 9, 2025.
