SUSPECT CHARGED IN CONNECTION TO ASSAULT AND BATTERY OF ELDERLY VICTIM

San Francisco, CA – District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced today that San Francisco resident, Curtis Dubbels (21), has been charged in connection to an assault on Franklin Street.  The defendant was arraigned on August 2, 2023, and pled not guilty to all charges and allegations.   Dubbels is charged with elder abuse (PC 368(b)(1)) with allegations that the defendant inflicted great bodily injury upon the victim (PC 12022.7(c) and 368(b)(2)), assault with force likely to cause great bodily injury (PC 245(a)(4) with an allegation that the defendant inflicted great bodily injury (PC 12022.7(c), and battery with serious bodily injury upon the victim.

“We must protect seniors in our community from all forms of elder abuse and prevent them from being preyed upon, as these neighbors are quite often the most vulnerable,” said District Attorney Brooke Jenkins. “I am grateful to the San Francisco Police Department for their commitment to prioritizing the safety of this individual and I am confident that my Vulnerable Victims Unit will vigorously pursue justice on behalf of this victim and the city’s most vulnerable.”

Curtis Dubbels is alleged to have assaulted an 81-year-old woman on July 26, 2023, in the area of Franklin Street and Myrtle Street at approximately 5:00 PM.  The San Francisco Police Department reported the incident as a person shoving the victim off of the sidewalk without provocation which knocked her off her feet and into a lane of traffic.  San Francisco Police arrested the defendant on July 29, 2023. 

The defendant’s next court date is August 15, 2023, for the preliminary hearing in this matter.  The court set no bail and the defendant is currently in custody.  If convicted of all charges, and all allegations are found to be true, these charges could result in a sentence of up to 9 years in State Prison.
