SAN FRANCISCO WOMAN CHARGED IN CONNECTION TO SERIES OF RETAIL THEFTS FROM THREE WALGREENS LOCATIONS

San Francisco, CA – District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced today that San Francisco resident Savannah Church (24), also known as Ashley West, has been charged in connection to a series of commercial burglaries in San Francisco.   Ms. Church was arraigned on September 28, 2023, and pled not guilty to eight counts of organized retail theft (PC 490.4(a)(1)), eight counts of second-degree commercial burglary (PC 459), and eight counts of grand theft (PC 487(a)).

“Organized retail theft deeply impacts our residents, shoppers and businesses,” said District Attorney Brooke Jenkins.  “Prolific, serial retail burglars, have an outsized impact on our community and must be held accountable.”

Ms. Church is alleged to have participated in eight retail theft incidents between June 10, 2023, and September 4, 2023. During this time, it is alleged that she and others stole approximately $34,000 worth of goods from three Walgreens locations (456 Mission Street, 1189 Potrero Avenue, and 2494 San Bruno Avenue).   San Francisco Police took Ms. Church into custody without incident on September 27, 2023.

Ms. Church’s next court date is October 10, 2023, for the preliminary hearing in this matter.  The District Attorney’s Office moved to detain her pending trial because of the vast number of incidents in this case and because she has three other open cases in San Francisco as well as open cases in San Mateo County and Alameda County (both of which are in bench warrant status).  The court granted the People’s motion to detain and set no bail for Ms. Church.

Although charges have been filed, this remains an active investigation.  Anyone with information is asked to call the San Francisco Police Department Tip Line at 1-415-575-4444 or Text a Tip to TIP411 and begin the text message with SFPD.  You may remain anonymous.
