San Francisco, CA – District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced today that Daevon Hudson (23) of Antioch and Jose Carreno (51) of San Francisco have been charged in connection to an auto burglary in Alamo Square and subsequent sale of stolen property to a fence in the Mission District.

Mr. Hudson was arraigned on November 16, 2023, and pled not guilty to one count of second-degree auto burglary (PC 459), one count of possession of a firearm by a felon (PC 29800(a)(1)), carrying a loaded firearm (PC 25850(a)), one count of carrying a concealed firearm in a vehicle (25400(a)(1)), one count of possession of ammunition (PC 30305(a)(1)), one count of receiving or buying stolen property (PC 496(a)), and one count of possession of burglar tools (PC 466).

Mr. Carreno was arraigned on November 16, 2023, and pled not guilty to one count of receiving or buying stolen property (PC 496).

“I would like to thank the San Francisco Police Department for their work to quickly identify and make an arrest of a suspected auto burglar and fence,” said District Attorney Brooke Jenkins. “My office takes these cases seriously and will do everything in our power to ensure there is accountability and consequences for this behavior that deeply impacts residents and visitors across the city.”

According to the San Francisco Police Department, on November 14, 2023, at approximately 10:17 a.m., the San Francisco Police Department located a vehicle suspected in an auto burglary that occurred in Alamo Square earlier that same day. The vehicle was first spotted in the area of Potreto Avenue and Division Street and later stopped in the area of 24th Street and Alabama Street, where the driver met with an unknown male, later identified as 51-year-old Jose Carreno. Mr. Coreno appeared to be purchasing items from an occupant in the suspected vehicle. After the suspect vehicle left, officers detained Mr. Carreno and items from the initial auto burglary in Alamo Square were recovered. Mr. Carreno was then placed under arrest.

Later in the day on November 14, 2023, officers took the occupants of the suspect vehicle, Mr. Hudson and a female of Pittsburg into custody in Oakland. A search of the vehicle yielded a firearm, a large amount of U.S. Currency, burglary tools and more items that had been stolen in the initial auto burglary. The recovered items were returned to the auto burglary victims. The female in the car is not being charged at this time.

Mr. Hudson and Mr. Carreno’s next court date is December 1, 2023, for the preliminary hearing in this matter. The District Attorney’s Office moved to detain both individuals pending trial because of the public safety risk they each pose. The court granted the People’s motions to detain Mr. Hudson without prejudice and set no bail for Mr. Hudson. The court will hear further arguments on the motion to detain at the time of the preliminary hearing in this case. Mr. Carreno was released on his own recognizance by the court and ordered to appear at all future hearings and not possess any stolen property.

If convicted of all charges Mr. Hudson faces more than three years in State Prison. If convicted of all charges Mr. Carreno faces up to three years in State Prison.

Although charges have been filed, this remains an active investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the San Francisco Police Department Tip Line at 1-415-575-4444 or Text a Tip to TIP411 and begin the text message with SFPD. You may remain anonymous.
