San Francisco, CA – District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced today that Alexander Martinez (30) has been charged in connection to a shooting in the Mission District. Mr. Martinez was charged on April 10, 2024, and initially scheduled for arraignment on April 10, 2024. He has been charged with one count of murder (PC 187(a)) and alleged the special circumstance that it was a drive by murder (PC 190.2(a)(21)) and an allegation of personal and intentional discharge of a firearm causing death (PC 12022.53(d)), one count of discharging a firearm from a motor vehicle (PC 26100(c)) with the allegation of personal and intentional discharge of a firearm causing death (PC 12022.53(d)), one count of possession of a loaded firearm while not the registered owner (PC 25850(a)).
“I would first like to offer my condolences to the victim’s loved ones,” said District Attorney Brooke Jenkins. “I would also like to thank the first responders who took immediate action to attempt to save the victim’s life and the San Francisco Police Department for making a swift arrest in this case. This shooting has shaken the Mission District, and my office will do everything in our power to ensure that justice is served to the victim and the community in this case.”
According to San Francisco Police, on April 5, 2024, at approximately 1:37 p.m., SFPD officers responded to the 2300 block of Mission Street regarding a report of a shooting. Officers arrived on scene and located an adult male victim suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite life-saving efforts by first responders, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. The SFPD Homicide Unit responded to the scene, took over the investigation, which led to the arrest of 30-year-old Alexander Martinez, of Richmond, CA.
Mr. Martinez has been in custody since his arrest on April 5, 2024, and is scheduled for arraignment on April 17, 2024, in Department 10 of the Hall of Justice at 9:00 a.m., this was scheduled at the request of the defense. The District Attorney’s Office moved to detain him pending trial because of the public safety risk he poses. If convicted of all charges, Mr. Martinez faces life in prison without the possibility of parole.
