MAN CHARGED WITH HATE CRIME AND ASSAULT IN TENDERLOIN INCIDENT

San Francisco, CA – Today, San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced that Elliott Quinones (33), has been charged in connection to an incident in the Tenderloin. Mr. Quinones was arraigned on January 29, 2025, and pleaded not guilty to all charges and denied all allegations. He is charged with one count of assault with a firearm (PC 245(a)(2)), with allegations that he personally used a firearm in the assault (PC 12022.5(a)) and a hate crime allegation (PC 422.75(a)). He is also charged with making criminal threats (PC 422(a)) and a hate crime allegation (PC 422.75(a)).

“Our city has now experienced two hate crimes against members of our Latino community within a matter of weeks,” said District Attorney Brooke Jenkins. “This is an alarming trend and my office will take action to ensure that there is accountability and consequences for people who choose to sow hate, division and mistrust like this.”

According to court documents, the victim, who is of Mexican descent, was watching football with several friends in the open garage attached to his residence when Mr. Quinones, whom they did not know, allegedly approached them. Allegedly, he withdrew a black, semi-automatic firearm, racked the slide and pressed it into the victim’s ribs and told the victim and all gathered that he would return and that he “hates Mexicans.”

Mr. Quinones’ next court date is February 11, 2025, for the preliminary hearing in this matter. The District Attorney’s Office moved to have Mr. Quinones detained pending trial because of the public safety risk he poses. The court granted the motion and set no bail.

Although charges have been filed, this remains an active investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the San Francisco Police Department Tip Line at 1-415-575-4444 or Text a Tip to TIP411 and begin the text message with SFPD. You may remain anonymous.
