San Francisco, CA – San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced today that her office secured a conviction of Bo Trang (31), after a trial by jury for arson in the Western Addition. Mr. Trang was convicted of arson of property (PC 451(d)) and possession of flammable materials with intent to commit arson (PC 453(a)).
“I would like to thank the jury for their service in this trial,” said District Attorney Brooke Jenkins. “The jury’s verdict delivers justice to the residents and victims and sends a message that lawlessness will not be tolerated.”
According to the testimony and evidence presented at trial, on the evening of December 15, 2024, and while on felony probation, Mr. Trang followed a victim to his apartment building in the Western Addition neighborhood and when asked to leave he instead found his way to the third floor and lit a painting on fire, damaging the adjoining wall before it was discovered and put out by the security guard and residents. Mr. Trang was apprehended by SFPD minutes afterward.
The case against Mr. Trang was successfully prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Jonathan Yang with assistance from paralegal Sara Wong and IT support from Noaeh Pinaire. Prosecutors were able to develop a strong case against Mr. Trang based on the work of SFPD officers from Northern Station and the diligence of the resident-victims who discovered Mr. Trang and the fire.
“I want to thank the jury for their thoughtful deliberation which ensured a fair and just verdict.” said Assistant District Attorney Jonathan Yang. “I am also grateful to the two resident-victims who called 911 and came forward to testify.”
Mr. Trang is currently in custody. Sentencing is set for April 18, 2025.
