MAN CONVICTED OF ASSAULT AND CRIMINAL THREATS IN TENDERLOIN ATTACK ON FAMILY

San Francisco, CA – San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced today that her office secured a conviction of Jefferson Silva (25), after a trial by jury for a violent attack on a family in the Tenderloin. Mr. Silva was convicted of Assault (PC 240) and Criminal Threats (PC 422).

“I would like to thank the jury for their service in this trial,” said District Attorney Brooke Jenkins. “The jury’s verdict holds Mr. Silva accountable for his unacceptable conduct. Families should expect to be able to go for a walk safely in every neighborhood in our city. My office will continue to do everything we can to fight for justice and work to make our city safer.”

According to testimony and other evidence presented at trial, on April 29, 2024, at 11:20 am, Mr. Silva assaulted a father and threatened his wife and baby while they were out walking near the playground at Hyde Street and Turk Street. This assault left the victim hospitalized and his family traumatized. Officers at the Tenderloin Station arrived at the scene of the attack within three minutes and rendered first-aid until the victim was transported to San Francisco General Hospital by ambulance.

The case against Mr. Silva was successfully prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Samantha Zurcher, with assistance from paralegal Josh Nickchen and Victim Advocate Lily Bueno, who worked closely with the victims throughout the pendency of this case. Prosecutors were able to develop this case due to the diligent response and investigation by officers of the San Francisco Police Department’s Tenderloin Station.

“I am grateful that, after carefully considering the evidence presented at trial, the jury delivered a fair and just verdict,” said Assistant District Attorney Samantha Zurcher. “This conviction shows that the people of San Francisco will not tolerate unlawful violence in our city, especially against families.”
