San Francisco, CA – San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced today that her office secured a conviction of Cornell Harris (38), after a trial by jury for kicking a neighbor’s door down. Mr. Harris was convicted of vandalism.
“I would like to thank the jury for their service on this trial,” said District Attorney Brooke Jenkins. “This conviction holds Mr. Harris accountable and makes clear that this conduct will not be tolerated. Incidents like this are traumatic to victims and other residents and can not be allowed to become normalized.”
According to evidence and other testimony presented at trial, on the morning of July 23, 2024, San Francisco Police Department Officers responded to a report of a man, Mr. Harris, who had kicked in the door to an apartment on the 300 block of Eddy Street. According to witness testimony and video surveillance, Mr. Harris stood outside a neighbor’s apartment unit for several minutes before he started kicking the door. After six kicks, Mr. Harris broke down the door and entered the room and then exited seconds later. SFPD Officers detained Mr. Harris on the scene without incident.
The case against Mr. Harris was successfully prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Greg Zaffino, with assistance from District Attorney Investigator Teddy Martin and paralegals Raquel Paz Aleman and Nohemi Torres and IT support from Noaeh Pinaire. Prosecutors were able to develop this case based on the San Francisco Police Department’s Tenderloin Station’s thorough investigation.
“I would like to thank the jury for their thoughtful consideration of the evidence and for delivering a fair verdict,” said Assistant District Attorney Greg Zaffino. “This conviction reinforces how important it is that all San Franciscans are able to feel safe in their homes.”
