Man convicted of selling methamphetamine to undercover officer
San Francisco, CA – San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced today that her office secured a conviction of Christopher Melton (44), after a trial by jury for drug trafficking in the Tenderloin. Mr. Melton was convicted of selling methamphetamine.
“I would like to thank the jury for their service in this trial,” said District Attorney Brooke Jenkins. “Closing open air drug markets and holding drug traffickers accountable continues to be a top priority for me, law enforcement and city residents who want to live in safe and dignified communities.”
According to testimony and other evidence presented at trial, on July 29, 2025, at approximately 10:40 p.m., the San Francisco Police Department Narcotics Unit conducted a buy-bust operation in the Tenderloin. Mr. Melton was arrested after he sold an undercover officer methamphetamine on the 100 block of Leavenworth Street.
The case against Mr. Melton was successfully prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney John Robles, with assistance from paralegals Joshua Nickchen and Katelyn Figueroa, the subpoena unit, and District Attorney Investigators. Prosecutors were able to develop a strong case thanks to the dedication of officers who investigated this case from the San Francisco Police Department’s Narcotics unit.
“The people of the Tenderloin deserve streets that are safe and free from open air drug dealing,” said Assistant District Attorney John Robles. “When individuals choose to profit from that harm, there will be consequences. In San Francisco, we are building safer streets and stronger communities.”
Mr. Melton is currently out of custody pending sentencing. Sentencing is scheduled for March 26, 2026.
