MAN CONVICTED OF VIOLATING DOMESTIC VIOLENCE CRIMINAL PROTECTIVE ORDER AND UNLAWFUL FIREARM POSSESSION CHARGES

San Francisco, CA – San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced today that her office secured a conviction of Edward Simpson (30), after a trial by jury, for violating a court order and felony unlawful firearm possession charges. Mr. Simpson was convicted of violation of a criminal protective order (PC 166(c)(1)), possession of a firearm by a felon (PC 29800(a)(1)), carrying a concealed firearm within a vehicle (PC 25400(a)(1)), and unlawful possession of ammunition (PC 30305(a)(1)).

“This case is a clear demonstration on why DV restraining orders must be enforced,” said District Attorney Brooke Jenkins. “The jury’s verdict holds Mr. Simpson accountable and makes clear that we will protect our most vulnerable and keep them safe. We take these crimes seriously because we know that these kinds of incidents can be precursors to greater violence and tragedy.”

According to testimony and other evidence presented at trial, on September 23, 2025, at approximately 4:30 p.m., Mr. Simpson drove by and harassed a person who was walking to a bus stop, in violation of an active Domestic Violence Criminal Protective Order issued by the San Diego County Superior Court. Later that evening, Mr. Simpson double-parked his car outside the person’s apartment and approached the apartment gate while wearing a ski mask, also in violation of the protective order. A witness called 9-1-1 to report the incident. At about 11:15 p.m., San Francisco Police Department officers located Mr. Simpson’s vehicle on the 300 block of Valencia Street in the Mission District, conducted a felony stop, and searched the car. Officers seized a Glock .380 semi-automatic pistol from under the driver’s seat. The pistol was loaded with six cartridges, and its serial number had been defaced. Mr. Simpson was arrested and charged with violating a court-ordered protective order and for unlawful possession of a firearm due to a prior felony conviction.

The case against Mr. Simpson was successfully prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Robert Miranda, with invaluable assistance from District Attorney Investigator Jesus Mendoza, paralegals Lee-Ann Collins, Lena Ku, Loretta Luu, and Aareona Miles, and IT support from Noaeh Pinaire. Victim advocate Kendall Anderson worked closely with the victim throughout the pendency of this case. Their preparation and attention to detail combined with a thorough investigation from SFPD’s Mission and Northern Station officers ensured that the evidence was presented clearly and thoroughly.

“I extend my sincere gratitude to the jurors for their attentiveness and careful consideration of the evidence,” said Assistant District Attorney Robert Miranda. “This verdict makes clear that domestic violence and unlawful possession of firearms have no place in San Francisco. Our community and the justice system will continue to defend survivors and hold perpetrators accountable.”
