San Francisco, CA –San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced today that her office secured a conviction of Dasan Warsaialem Brown (26) after a trial by jury for sexually assaulting a person on a bus.
Mr. Brown was convicted of assault with intent to commit a felony (PC 220(a)(1)); attempted rape by force or violence or by threat of bodily injury (PC 664/261(a)(2); attempted sexual penetration by foreign object, force and violence (PC 664/289(a)(1)(A); sexual battery by restraint (PC 243.4(a)); simple assault (PC 240); assault with force likely to cause great bodily injury (PC 245(a)(4)); felony false imprisonment (PC 236), and two counts of misdemeanor vandalism (PC 594(b)(2)(a)).
“I would like to thank the jury for their time and attention to the evidence in this trial,” said District Attorney Brooke Jenkins. “This verdict reinforces our city’s commitment to holding those who commit acts of sexual violence accountable. We are thankful for the victim’s courage to come forward and trust in our office to obtain justice and accountability.”
According to testimony and evidence presented at trial, at approximately 11:40 p.m., on April 26, 2025, Mr. Brown violently assaulted the victim on the 29 Muni bus at Winston Avenue after all other passengers had gotten off the bus. Mr. Brown attempted to rape and sexually penetrate the victim with a foreign object. The victim was strangled and sexually assaulted. The victim also sustained injuries, including loss of hair. The bus driver saw what was happening and immediately called for help. San Francisco State University Police responded and detained Mr. Brown before San Francisco Police arrived and took him into custody.
The case against Mr. Brown was successfully prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Tanisha Gooch, with assistance from District Attorney Investigator Shan Johnson, paralegal Andrew Ong, and IT support from Noaeh Pinaire. Special thanks to Victim Advocates Abigail Cordova and Cindy Pelayo who worked closely with the victim throughout the pendency of this case. Prosecutors were able to develop a strong case thanks to the dedication of officers who investigated this case from the San Francisco State University Police Department, San Francisco Police Department’s Special Victims Unit and Taraval Station.
“The victim fought hard despite the odds and deserved justice in this case,” said Assistant District Attorney Tanisha Gooch. “I want to thank the jury for their careful consideration.”
Mr. Brown is currently in custody pending sentencing. Sentencing is scheduled for September 3, 2026.
