San Francisco, CA – San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced today that her office secured a conviction of Kevon Gibson (33), after a trial by jury, for unlawful gun possession and fighting with police. Mr. Gibson was convicted of being a felon in possession of a firearm (PC 29800(a)(1)), and three counts of resisting arrest (PC 148(a)(1)).
“I would like to thank the jury for their service in this trial,” said District Attorney Brooke Jenkins. “I would also like to thank the witnesses and San Francisco Police who responded. Compliance with our gun laws, especially for convicted felons, is not optional.”
According to the testimony and evidence presented at trial, on August 17, 2025, Mr. Gipson was identified as a person with a gun at a residential hotel on Sixth Street. When officers attempted to contact Mr. Gipson and ordered him to get out of an elevator, he did not comply. When officers attempted a pat search for weapons, Mr. Gipson started to actively resist their attempts and fight with officers. Eventually three officers were able to restrain Mr. Gipson and handcuff him. Once restrained, the pat search was completed and a loaded, unregistered, 9MM Glock firearm was found in his right pocket.
This case was successfully prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Elizabeth Jimenez, with the assistance of District Attorney Investigators Lessa Dillion, Keith Nuemer and Sven Hamilton, legal assistant Daniel La, Hang Ngo from the Subpoena Unit and IT support from Noaeh Pinaire and Leland Chan. Prosecutors were able to put on a strong case, thanks to officers from the San Francisco Police Department’s Tenderloin Station.
“I would like to thank the jurors who took the time to carefully sit through the evidence in this case,” said Assistant District Attorney Elizabeth Jimenez. “Their verdict recognized the work that San Francisco Police Officers do every day to keep this city safe by keeping illegally possessed firearms off the streets.”
Mr. Gibson is currently out of custody. Sentencing is scheduled for August 26, 2026.
