San Francisco, CA – San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced today that her office secured a conviction of Eric Escobar (32), after a trial by jury for driving under the influence on Portola Dr. from Twin Peaks Blvd. Mr. Escobar was convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol (VC 23152(a)) and unlawful turning movement (VC 22107).

“I would like to thank the jury for their service in this trial,” said District Attorney Brooke Jenkins. “Although this incident did not result in tragedy, this case and verdict should serve as a reminder that driving under the influence won’t be tolerated in this city. My office is committed to keeping our roadways safe and will do everything we can to hold offenders accountable.”

According to testimony and other evidence presented at trial, on July 29, 2025, at approximately 12:10 AM, Mr. Escobar was waiting at the stoplight at Portola Dr. and Twin Peaks Blvd. behind the victim’s car. When the light turned green, Mr. Escobar tried to drive around the victim’s car but hit the victim’s vehicle and did not stop. The victim and the victim’s brother, who had been driving behind Mr. Escobar in a separate car, chased after Mr. Escobar while calling the police. The victim and his brother were able to block Mr. Escobar until officers arrived.

The case against Mr. Escobar was successfully prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Gwendolyn West with assistance from Paralegals Nohemi Torres, Lord Fernandez, and Raquel Paz Aleman; IT support from Leland Chan and Noaeh Piniare; and District Attorney Investigators Ted Martin and Perla Ortiz. Prosecutors were able to develop a strong case against Mr. Escobar based on the San Francisco Police Department’s thorough investigation and assistance.

“I would like to thank the jury for their thoughtful consideration of the evidence and for delivering a just verdict,” said Assistant District Attorney Gwendolyn West. “This conviction sends a clear message that San Francisco is committed to the safety of everyone on the road and holding those who drive under the influence accountable.”

The San Francisco District Attorney’s Office takes all driving under the influence cases seriously and seeks to hold offenders accountable in all cases. For DUI felony cases, the office established a Felony DUI Vertical Prosecution Unit with a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
