San Francisco, CA –

Today, San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced that Glenn Hopkins (44), of San Francisco, has been charged in connection to stabbing on a Muni bus in the South of Market neighborhood. Mr. Hopkins is charged with attempted murder (PC 664/187(a)), use of a deadly weapon (PC 12022(b)(1)), and great bodily injury (PC 12022.7(a)). He is also charged with assault with a deadly weapon committed against a public transit passenger (PC 245.2) and great bodily injury (PC 12022.7(a)).

According to court documents, on September 23, 2026, at 1:44 PM, SFPD officers responded to a stabbing on a Muni bus. Mr. Hopkins was involved in an encounter with two female passengers when the victim boarded the bus and heard the women yelling at Mr. Hopkins to get away and to stop staring at them. The victim stood between Mr. Hopkins and the women. Mr. Hopkins continued trying to get past the victim, could not, and ultimately Mr. Hopkins removed a box cutter with the blade exposed and then suddenly and repeatedly swung it at the victim’s neck and throat. SFPD officers located Mr. Hopkins nearby and placed him under arrest.

Mr. Hopkins is scheduled to be arraigned on September 28, 2026, at 1:30 PM in the Hall of Justice. The District Attorney’s Office will move to have him detained pending trial because of the public safety risk he poses.
