MAN CHARGED IN CONNECTION TO SEXUAL AND PHYSICAL ASSAULT OF A WOMAN

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Today, San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced that David Vonstetten (36), of San Francisco, has been charged in connection to an incident that occurred on September 26, 2026. Mr. Vonstetten is scheduled to be arraigned on October 7, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. at the Hall of Justice.

Mr. Vonstetten is charged with sodomy of unconscious person (PC 286(f)(1)), sodomy by intoxication (PC 286(i)), sodomy by force (PC 286(c)(2)(A)), sexual battery by restraint (PC 243.4(a)), and felony false imprisonment (PC 236).

According to court documents, on September 26, 2026, San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) officers were dispatched to Bayshore Boulevard and Industrial Street on the report of a woman who had just been sexually assaulted. Upon their arrival, the 21-year-old woman stated she had been sexually assaulted by a man who was in a tent on the hill. Officers went to locate the man – later identified as Mr. Vonstetten – and the woman was treated in an ambulance. The woman stated that she had woken up to Mr. Vonstetten sexually assaulting her. The woman stated that she was unconscious at the start of the assault and that she didn’t and couldn’t give consent. She then left the tent, went down the hill, and found a witness who was able to help her call SFPD.

Although charges have been filed, this remains an active investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the San Francisco Police Department Tip Line at 1-415-575-4444 or Text a Tip to TIP411 and begin the text message with SFPD. You may remain anonymous.
