WOMAN CHARGED IN CONNECTION TO FATAL SHOOTING ON MARKET STREET

San Francisco, CA – Today, San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced that Shakia Vanderbilt (32), of San Francisco, was charged with murder in connection to a fatal shooting on Market Street.

Ms. Vanderbilt is scheduled to be arraigned on October 8, 2026, at 1:30 PM in the Hall of Justice. The District Attorney’s Office will move to have Ms. Vanderbilt detained pending trial without bail due to the public safety risk she poses.

Ms. Vanderbilt is charged with murder (PC 187(a)), with an allegation that she used a firearm in the commission of the murder (PC 12022.53(d)). Ms. Vanderbilt is also charged with discharging a firearm at an occupied building (PC 246) with an allegation that she intentionally discharged the firearm and caused death (PC 12022.53(d)). In addition, Ms. Vanderbilt is charged with four counts of possession of a firearm by a felon (PC 29800(a)(1)).

According to the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD), on October 3, 2026, at approximately 1:00 am. officers responded to the 900 block of Market Street regarding a shooting. Officers arrived on scene and located an adult male victim who was suffering injuries from an apparent gunshot wound. Officers rendered aid and paramedics arrived on scene and transported the victim to a local hospital for life-threatening injuries. Despite the lifesaving efforts of the medical staff, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was declared deceased in the hospital. On October 6, 2026, SFPD Homicide investigators developed probable cause to arrest Ms. Vanderbilt.
