MAN CHARGED IN CONNECTION TO STRING OF HOT PROWL BURGLARIES

San Francisco, CA – Today, San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced that Levi Michael Banks (38) has been charged in connection with a string of hot prowl burglaries in San Francisco that occurred between September 26, 2026, and October 23, 2026.

Mr. Banks has been charged with ten counts of residential burglary (PC 459), vandalism (PC 594(b)(2)), possession of stolen property (PC 496(a)), and theft of access cards and card information (PC 484(e)).

According to court records, on September 26, 2026, between approximately 2:24 AM and 9:35 AM, SFPD received several reports of hot prowl burglaries on the 4100 and 4200 blocks of 24th Street., the 600 block of Elizabeth Street, and the 900 block of Noe Street. By tracking fraudulent purchases made with victims’ credit cards, investigators were able to identify a suspect vehicle and track it using Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) data.

On the morning of October 13, 2026, two homes — one on the 2500 block of Fillmore Street, the other on the 2200 block of Jackson Street — reported to police that they’d been burgled sometime before waking, with a combined loss of over $64,000 in valued property. On October 16, 2026, SFPD responded to a burglary report on the 200 block of 12th Avenue, a multi-unit home with family members in each unit.

On October 23, 2026, officers responded to a triggered silent alarm on the 3700 block of Clay Street at approximately 2:23 AM. Officers arrived on scene and observed the vehicle that had been identified in earlier ALPR searches. They surveilled the vehicle in an attempt to arrest the suspected burglar. At approximately 4:36 AM, Mr. Banks returned to the vehicle, at which point SFPD officers arrested Mr. Banks.

Officers searched the area where Mr. Banks was seen emerging; and located a backpack containing clothing worn by the suspect in surveillance footage in a tradesman path between two homes on Washington Street. The backpack contained personal identifying information belonging to residents of nearby homes, approximately $4,500 in cash, and clothing consistent with the descriptions given to SFPD by victims.

The defendant was arraigned on October 27 and detained by the court. The following court dates have been scheduled: November 3, for defense motion to release the defendant; November 9, for the Preliminary Hearing; and November 10 because the defense has asked for a PC 1001.36 Mental Health Diversion Eligibility Report.

Although charges have been filed, this remains an active investigation. Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to call the San Francisco Police Department Tip Line at 1-415-575-4444 or Text a Tip to TIP411 and begin the text message with ‘SFPD’. You may remain anonymous.
