San Francisco, CA – San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced today that her office secured a conviction of Keonte Gathron (25), of San Francisco, after a trial by jury for murder. Mr. Gathron was convicted of first-degree murder, during the commission of a robbery and burglary. He was also convicted of eight counts of robbery, one count of kidnapping for robbery, two counts of carjacking, two counts of burglary, as well as elder abuse and child endangerment. The jury also found true the allegations that he personally used a firearm during three of the incidents.
“I would like to thank the jury for their service in this trial and for delivering justice to the murder victim’s grieving family and all of the surviving victims,” said District Attorney Brooke Jenkins. “Mr. Gathron is now being held accountable for his crimes that terrorized so many in our community. My office is committed to fighting for justice in every case for as long as it takes.”
According to testimony and other evidence presented at trial, Mr. Gathron intentionally and violently targeted vulnerable members of our community for his own financial gain. Mr. Gathron robbed seven residents in just 13 days in January 2019. Three of his victims were elderly and three were juveniles – on their way to or from school. Six were Asian – most of whom spoke little or no English. Each victim was selected because they were alone, distracted and small. In that way, Mr. Gathron’s actions had outsize impact on our whole City.
The case against Mr. Gathron was successfully prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Nathan Quigley, with assistance from District Attorney Investigator Douglass Keeley, paralegals Jessica Diamond, Julio Flores Guzman, the subpoena unit for coordinating all of the court interpretation requests, and IT support from Noaeh Pinaire. Victim Advocate Peter Huynh worked closely with the surviving victims and Ms. Huang’s family through the pendency of this case. The case was solved thanks to the tireless work of San Francisco Police Sergeants Francis Feliciano and Carmichael Reyes.
“It is normal for ordinary folks to demand justice but be intimated when called to testify in court,” said Assistant District Attorney Nathan Quigley. “During this trial, each of the surviving victims and witnesses not only had to directly face their assailant who was representing himself – but did so through the use of interpreters, where so much can be lost in translation. It was inspiring to see them each stand up for themselves and each other – to ensure that this man who has already taken so much from so many members of our community will never harm anyone again.”
Mr. Gathron is currently in custody. Sentencing is scheduled for November 25, 2025.
