San Francisco, CA – San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced today that her office secured a conviction of Joshua Vasquez (47), after a trial by jury for assaulting an elderly man and vandalizing the lobby of the building where they were located. Mr. Vasquez was convicted of vandalism (PC 594(b)(2)(A)) and assault (PC 240).

“I would like to thank the jury for their service on this trial,” said District Attorney Brooke Jenkins. “The jury’s verdict holds Mr. Vasquez accountable and sends a message that this behavior will not be tolerated.”

According to the testimony and evidence presented at trial, on July 14, 2026, Mr. Vasquez approached the 79-year-old victim, a Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Corporation staff member of the building where Mr. Vasquez lives, and became irate when the victim informed Mr. Vasquez that he was not authorized to open Mr. Vasquez’s mailbox. During the confrontation, Mr. Vasquez damaged building property and threw a skateboard at the victim.

The case against Mr. Vasquez was successfully prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Nasser Banihani with assistance from paralegals Nohemi Torres and Lord Fernandez; District Attorney Investigators Ted Martin and Perla Ortiz; and IT support from Noaeh Piniare. Prosecutors were able to develop a strong case against Mr. Vasquez based on the work of officers from the San Francisco Police Department.

“I would like to thank the jury for taking their civic duty seriously and delivering a verdict that reflects the facts and evidence presented at trial,” said Assistant District Attorney Nasser Banihani. “This case demonstrates that the People of San Francisco will not tolerate the mistreatment of its most vulnerable members, particularly those who have dedicated their lives and careers to serving and giving back to the community.”
