San Francisco, CA – Today, San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced that Patrick Potter (32), has been charged with multiple felonies in connection to stolen merchandise recovered in San Francisco from a string of burglaries allegedly committed in Oakland. Mr. Potter was arraigned on January 23, 2026, and pleaded not guilty to all charges and denied the allegations. He is charged with first-degree residential burglary, three counts of receiving stolen property, second-degree burglary of a vehicle, second-degree commercial burglary, unlawful entry of a vehicle, and possession of burglar tools. The criminal complaint also alleges that the crimes were committed while Mr. Potter was released on his own recognizance in other pending felony cases.
Prosecutors moved to have Mr. Potter detained pending trial without bail because of the public safety risk he poses. The court set bail in the amount of $100,000.
The San Francisco District Attorney’s Office will move to terminate Mr. Potter’s Mental Health Diversion, which was granted by the Court over prosecutors’ objection, at a hearing scheduled for Monday, January 26, 2026, at 9 a.m., in Department 8. Prosecutors will move to have Mr. Potter’s Mental Health Diversion terminated because he has accrued new felony charges during the diversionary period.
According to court records, Mr. Potter was released on his own recognizance after he was admitted into Mental Health Diversion. He was ordered to be fitted with an electronic monitor confined to home detention in a residential treatment program and enroll in the Sheriff’s Office’s Pre Trial Electronic Monitoring Program. Allegedly he did not comply with these orders and the Sheriff’s Office issued an arrest warrant when he was terminated from the residential treatment program. Deputies arrested him on January 9, 2026, in San Francisco, allegedly with a backpack full of stolen items including stolen wallets, identity cards, various sets of keys, computers and tablets and burglar’s tools.
Although charges have been filed, this remains an active investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the San Francisco Police Department Tip Line at 1-415-575-4444 or Text a Tip to TIP411 and begin the text message with SFPD. You may remain anonymous.
