San Francisco, CA – Today, San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced that Darvaughn Young (34) was charged with felony driving under the influence in connection to an incident on the Bay Bridge. Mr. Young was arraigned on May 5, 2026, and pleaded not guilty to all charges and denied the allegations. Mr. Young is charged with one count of felony driving under the influence of alcohol (VC 23152(a)), one count of driving under the influence of alcohol with a blood alcohol level of .08% or above (VC 23152(b)). The criminal complaint contains an allegation that Mr. Young has three prior convictions for driving under the influence of alcohol within the last 10 years. The criminal complaint also alleges that Mr. Young was driving with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) greater than .15%
Mr. Young posted bail when he was arrested on May 2, 2026. At arraignment, the court ordered Mr. Young to not consume any alcohol and attend Alcoholics Anonymous meetings at least once per week. Mr. Young is also ordered not to drive and to be fitted with a SCRAM electronic alcohol monitoring device. Mr. Young’s next court date is June 9, 2026, to set the date for the preliminary hearing.
According to court records on September 20, 2025, at approximately 12:30 p.m., California Highway Patrol observed Mr. Young driving a silver BMW sedan on the Bay Bridge west bound, make an allegedly unsafe lane change by crossing from the #3 lane to the #5 lane, which caused cars behind him to brake to avoid a traffic collision.
CHP initiated a traffic enforcement stop and while speaking to Mr. Young, CHP noticed objective signs of alcohol intoxication. Mr. Young submitted to field sobriety tests and performed them unsatisfactorily. Mr. Young also submitted to the preliminary alcohol screening test which revealed the following results: .276% BAC at 12:49 p.m. and .277% BAC at 12:51 p.m. Subsequent breath chemical tests revealed a .26% BAC at 1:24 p.m. and .26% BAC at 1:29 p.m., more than three times the legal limit.
Although charges have been filed, and this case is being handled by the San Francisco District Attorney’s Felony DUI Vertical Prosecution Unit, this remains an active investigation.
