MAN CHARGED WITH MURDER IN CONNECTION TO 2024 FATAL GHOST GUN MISSION DISTRICT SHOOTING

San Francisco, CA – Today, San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced that Darryon Harry Chun (28) was charged with murder in connection to a fatal 2024 shooting in the Mission District. Mr. Chun is scheduled to be arraigned on May 22, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. in the Hall of Justice.

Mr. Chun is charged with murder (PC 187(a)), with an allegation that he used a firearm in the commission of the murder (PC 12022.53(d) and 12022.5(a)). He is also charged with one count of resisting an executive officer with an allegation that he was armed with a firearm while resisting (PC 12022.5(a)), possession of an assault weapon (PC 30605(a)) and one count of possession of a pistol without correct identification mark (PC 23920(b)).

The District Attorney’s Office will move to have Mr. Chun detained pending trial without bail due to the public safety risk he poses.

According to court documents, on August 4, 2024, at approximately five in the morning, near the intersection of 20th Street and Shotwell Street, Mr. Chun allegedly shot the wheelchair-bound victim once in the back of the head, killing him.

SFPD Officers recovered surveillance video of the incident. In it, two men are seen approaching Mr. Chun, who then allegedly drew a firearm and pointed it at the pair. The witness is seen running away, and the victim attempted to roll away but was unsuccessful. The video allegedly shows Mr. Chun then rapidly approaching the victim. Shortly afterwards, an out-of-frame gunshot is heard.

After identifying Mr. Chun as the suspect, San Francisco Police Department officers obtained search and arrest warrants for Mr. Chun. Members of the SFPD Tactical team conducted an operation to take Mr. Chun into custody. After announcing their presence and identifying themselves as police officers, thermal drone footage captured Mr. Chun allegedly attempting to exit the back of the building armed with a long gun.

Ultimately, officers were able to arrest Mr. Chun and search the residence. Inside, Mr. Chun was found to possess an illegal Kinetic Development Group KDG AR-15 assault rifle and a privately manufactured “ghost gun” Sig Sauer Model P320 pistol.

Although charges have been filed, this remains an active investigation. Anyone with information regarding this case, is asked to call the San Francisco Police Department Tip Line at 1-415-575-4444 or Text a Tip to TIP411 and begin the text message with SFPD. You may remain anonymous.
