MAN CONVICTED IN VIOLENT ARMED RESIDENTIAL ROBBERY IN OUTER RICHMOND

San Francisco, CA – San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced today that her office secured a conviction of Tasesa Sio (31). Mr. Sio was convicted of attempted robbery (PC 211 & 664), assault causing great bodily injury (PC 245(a)(4).

“I would like to thank the jury for their thoughtful verdict,” said District Attorney Brooke Jenkins. “People in San Francisco deserve to walk down our streets without fear of harm. I’m glad that Mr. Sio will be held accountable for his actions against these two young men.”

According to evidence and other testimony presented at trial, on June 18, 2026, Mr. Sio approached two young men, Victims 1 and 2, who were walking in the Taraval district near the 500 block of Gellert Dr and asked for the time. After they provided the time, Mr. Sio asked to borrow Victim 1’s cellphone. Victim 1 refused and said he was calling the police. In response, the defendant threatened to take the phone if Victim 1 did not give it to him. Then, Mr. Sio made multiple swipes at the phone. Shortly after, Mr. Sio assaulted Victim 1 by swinging a backpack towards him, grabbing his testicles, kicking and punching him. Mr. Sio then fled the scene on his bicycle and SFPD responded on scene. Six days later, on June 24, 2026, the defendant was arrested in the Mission District by San Francisco Sherrif’s Deputies.

The case against Mr. Sio was successfully prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Aaron Johnson, with assistance from paralegal Andres Hernandez-Ruano and IT support from Noaeh Pinare. Victim Advocate Fernanda Garcia and District Attorney Investigators Sven Hamilton and Sammy Kim also provided invaluable assistance.

“Everyone deserves to enjoy walking around San Francisco without the threat of being robbed or assaulted,” said Assistant District Attorney Aaron Johnson. “While Mr. Sio targeted the young men, fortunately he was unable to take the victim’s cell phone. I am grateful the jury chose to hold the defendant fully accountable for his actions.”

Sentencing is scheduled for December 14th, 2026.
