San Francisco, CA – San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced today that her office secured a conviction of Kelly Shaw (53), following an incident where he hit the victim in the face while the victim’s relative was in the next room. Mr. Shaw was convicted of domestic violence resulting in a traumatic condition (P.C. 273.5), assault with force likely to cause great bodily injury (P.C. 245(a)(4)), and contempt of court for violation of a protective order (P.C. 166(c)(1)).
“I would like to thank the jury for their service in this trial,” said District Attorney Brooke Jenkins. “The jury’s verdict holds Mr. Shaw accountable for his conduct and sends a message that this frightening, violent behavior will not be tolerated. We take cases like this very seriously because it has multi-faceted impacts, it’s unlawful and has the potential to influence future acts of violence that my office aims to prevent from happening.”
According to testimony and other evidence presented at trial, on January 3, 2026, Mr. Shaw and the victim were in the victim’s bedroom. The victim’s relative was in the living room. The victim’s relative heard Mr. Shaw state, “I’m going to punch you in your face.” She then heard a noise and immediately went into the room. She saw that the victim had a swollen shut eye that was significantly bruised and bleeding. Officers arrived on scene and arrested Mr. Shaw.
Mr. Shaw had previously battered the victim on two prior reported incidents: one in 2024, where Mr. Shaw punched the victim in the face, and one in 2022 where Mr. Shaw threw a glass bottle at the victim, causing lacerations to the victim’s arm. As a result of the January 3, 2026, incident, the San Francisco Superior Court issued a criminal protective order, which Mr. Shaw violated on January 18, 2026.
The case against Mr. Shaw was successfully prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney James Filling, with invaluable assistance from District Attorney Investigators Glenn Pon and Rosanna Figueroa, paralegals Lee-Ann Collins and Aareona Miles, and IT support from Noaeh Pinaire. Victim advocate Alma Garcia worked with the victim throughout the pendency of this case.
