San Francisco, CA — Today, District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced that Garret Allen Doty (24) has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon (PC 245(a)(1)), aggravated battery with serious bodily injury (PC 243(d)), and assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury (PC 245(a)(4)) in connection with an incident at approximately 7:20PM on April 5, 2023 in the Marina District. Doty is alleged to have assaulted a 53-year-old man with a metal pipe near the intersection of Laguna Street and Magnolia Street.
“I understand how a violent attack like this can shake a community and I am committed to ensuring that the defendant is held accountable, so that we send the strongest message that violence like this is unacceptable,” said District Attorney Brooke Jenkins. “I am sending strength to the victim as he continues his recovery, and we will do everything in our power to seek justice for the victim and the community that has been traumatized.”
Garret Doty was arrested by members of the San Francisco Police Department’s Northern Station shortly after the assault without incident. Officers rendered aid at the scene and summoned medics. The victim was taken to Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital for treatment of several injuries sustained in the assault.
