San Francisco, CA – Today, San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced murder charges against Jesus Esparza (41) in connection to the murder of a 64 year-old female. Mr. Esparza is charged with murder (PC 187(a)) with an allegation that he personally used a deadly weapon (knife) in the commission of this crime (PC 12022(b)(1)).
“The Duboce Avenue killing is tragic,” said District Attorney Brooke Jenkins. “I offer my condolences to the victim’s friends and family and my unwavering commitment to pursuing justice and ensuring that the suspect is held accountable for this senseless crime.”
On Friday, May 5, 2023, at approximately 11:00 a.m., San Francisco Police officers from Park Station responded to the 400 block of Duboce Avenue regarding a report of an unresponsive person on the ground inside of a building. Officers arrived on scene and located the victim, a 64-year-old female, suffering from an apparent stab wound. Officers rendered aid and summoned medics to the scene. Despite efforts by first responders, the victim succumbed to her injuries.
Mr. Esparza has been in custody since his arrest on May 5, 2023, and is scheduled to be arraigned on Friday, May 19, 2023, in Department 10 of the Hall of Justice at 9:00 AM. Prosecutors will seek pre-trial detention in this case because of the extreme public safety risk he poses. Esparza faces 26 years to life imprisonment.
