MAN CHARGED WITH ASSAULT IN CONNECTION TO UNPROVOKED CASTRO DISTRICT ATTACK

San Francisco, CA – Today, San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced that Andrew Davais (34), has been charged in connection to an incident in the Castro. Mr. Davais is scheduled to be arraigned on April 23, 2025, at 1:30 PM in Department 10 at the Hall of Justice. He is charged with one count of assault with force likely to cause great bodily injury (PC 245(a)(4)), with an allegation that he personally inflicted great bodily injury on the victim (PC 12022.7(a)). The District Attorney’s Office will move to have Mr. Davais detained pending trial because of the public safety risk he poses.

According to court documents, on April 20, 2025, at 6:04 PM, Mr. Davais allegedly walked up to the victim who was standing with his wife at Castro Street and Market Street, wound his arm back and then punched the victim’s face without provocation. The victim fell backwards to the ground striking his head and sustaining multiple injuries. Allegedly, Mr. Davais walked away while holding a skateboard and trash bags. Multiple witnesses followed him until San Francisco Police Officers arrived on scene and arrested Mr. Davais.
