MAN CHARGED WITH MURDER IN CONNECTION TO FATAL MISSION DISTRICT SHOOTING

San Francisco, CA – Today, San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced that Luis Rebolledo (37), of San Francisco, was charged in connection with a fatal Mission District shooting.

Mr. Rebolledo is charged with one count of murder (PC 187(a)) and a special circumstance under Penal Code section 190.2(a)(22) alleging that he did so as an active participant in a criminal street gang and to further the activities of the gang. He has also been charged with attempted robbery, attempted extortion, and various violations for unlawfully possessing a firearm. The criminal complaint also alleges that Mr. Rebolledo intentionally discharged a firearm (PC 12022.53(d)), causing the death of the victim.

Mr. Rebolledo’s first court appearance was on October 16, 2024. Prosecutors moved to have him detained pending trial because of the public safety risk he poses. He remains in custody at this time.

“I would like to thank the San Francisco Police Department for diligently investigating and solving this tragic case,” said District Attorney Brooke Jenkins. “My office stands with the victims and everyone impacted by this brazen shooting last summer that left a man dead. We will do everything in our power to ensure that there is justice in this case and that the perpetrator is held accountable.”

According to court records, on July 24, 2024, at approximately 5:41 pm San Francisco Police Officers were dispatched to 16th Street and Mission Street for the report of a shooting. Officers arrived on scene where they found the victim with a single gunshot wound to the chest. The victim was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. Witnesses on scene stated that the suspect, later identified as Mr. Rebolledo, and his associate had been walking around the 16th Street and Mission Street Bart Station Plaza allegedly charging the street vendors “tax.” One witness stated that Mr. Rebolledo allegedly told him he needed to pay to sell in the area, and when the witness balked, Mr. Rebolledo allegedly raised his shirt to show that he had a concealed firearm. The witness then agreed to pay Mr. Rebolledo starting the next day. Mr. Rebolledo’s associate allegedly then went to a group of women to collect the tax but the women resisted, and Mr. Rebolledo’s associate started fighting them. The victim then went over to the fight in an apparent attempt to stop it. Mr. Rebolledo then allegedly pulled out a firearm and shot approximately four shots toward the area, striking the victim in the chest. Mr. Rebolledo allegedly then fled the area and was caught on surveillance discarding the murder weapon.

Mr. Rebolledo was arrested by San Francisco Police in Antioch, CA, by members of the San Francisco Police Department’s Homicide Unit and the Community Violence Reduction Team on October 13, 2024.

Mr. Rebolledo is scheduled to be arraigned on November 12, 2024, at 9:00 AM in Department 10 at the Hall of Justice.
